OOCL has reported strong revenue growth on the transpacific trades in the third quarter, figures just released show.

The Hong Kong liner operator said revenue from the trade was up 15.5% year-on-year to $651m against the $563.6m seen in 2017.

The shipowner also reported a 7.3% increase in liftings which reached 509,436-teu versus the 474,794-teu seen in the same period 12 months earlier.

In contrast, the Asia-Europe trade saw the highest growth in liftings, but was unable to convert this in to increased revenue.

Liftings on the trade were up 10.4% year-on-year to 328,786-teu, but revenue on the route was largely unchanged at $305.3m.

For the third quarter of 2018, total volumes were 6.9% up from the same period last year to 1.71mteu, while total revenues increased by 7% to $1.5bn.

OOCL said loadable capacity increased by 3.9%, while the overall load factor was 2.3% higher than the same period in 2017.

Overall average revenue per teu increased marginally by just 0.1% compared to the third quarter of last year.
