Singapore’s PSA has given interested parties until Monday to claim cargo-laden Hanjin Shipping containers left at its facilities.

The container terminal operator made the final demand in an advertisement placed in Monday’s issue of The Business Times newspaper.

“To ensure that we maintain an optimal port capacity to serve all our customers and partners, cargo owners, consignees, shippers and/or freight forwarders are urged to contact PSA and claim the containers and/or the cargo therein by 28 November,” PSA said.

“If the containers and/or cargo therein remain unclaimed after 28 November, we will take steps to dispose and/or sell them as we may deem fit.”

For those interests looking to import containers into Singapore, they face a refundable deposit of SGD 5,000 ($3,515) which is to ensure the return of the empty containers.

Hanjin Shipping vessels made 18 ports calls between late September and the end of October to unload containers, according to PSA figures.

Since September, the PSA has been running an operations centre specifically to handle the fallout from the collapse of Hanjin Shipping.
