Dubai-based Arise Shipping & Logistics has been bought out by its chief executive Captain Pappu Sastry as it targets expanded operations worldwide.

The company has been rebranded Adhira Shipping & Logistics, focusing on services to the mining sector.

Arise was established by Arise Ports & Logistics in 2022 under the leadership of Sastry.

Operations are based in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, with clients in North America and Europe.

Adhira now offers shipping services, niche commodity trading, land logistics, project and port management, barging and transhipment.

“We have been working with many of the world’s leading mining companies and with their support I had the confidence to take over the company and rebrand it to Adhira Shipping & Logistics,” said Sastry.

“We are working with clients that share our vision and goals to deliver projects that improve efficiency, sustainability with long-term community engagement,” he added.

The company told TradeWinds it does not own bulkers itself, but offers a chartering service to clients.

Cargoes include bauxite, iron ore, manganese, lithium and coal.

Sastry was previously CEO at Asian Bulk Logistics and then founded Nepa Projects & Investments.

From master to manager

Earlier in his career, he was a master on reefer boxships for Fleet Management before managing its insurance operations ashore.

“The takeover means that we are not restricted to working solely on projects in Africa and can pursue mining logistics projects anywhere in the world.

“This ensures that my experience of working in global shipping and logistics for the last 20 years is not diluted by focusing on a single geography,” said Sastry.

He added that many mining logistics operations are fragmented, with inherent inefficiencies adding additional costs and time.

Adhira will offer shipping services from ports to smelters, refineries or processing plants.

The non-asset-based approach means that the company engages with contractors solely for the time needed for labour, transport and plant hire, cutting costs, it explained.

“The customised approach means that the on-site [Adhira Shipping & Logistics] team can separately evaluate each project and specific commodity-handling requirements, and recommend and deliver according to what is needed for each client, at each mine, in transit, at the port and on board the ship,” Adhira said.
