Jinhui Shipping & Transportation is adding its first capesize to its bulker fleet for $30.95m.

The Oslo-listed Hong Kong shipowner has agreed to buy the Japanese-built 181,300-dwt New Delight (built 2012) from Hsin Chien Marine.

“The director believes that the acquisition of the vessel will enable the group to optimise the fleet profile through this ongoing management of asset portfolio,” Jinhui said.

The deal continues company’s fleet renewal drive. Last year it sold older vessels in a string of deals.

It now has a fleet of 22 supramaxes and two chartered-in kamsarmaxes.

The company said it will continuously look for opportunities in the market, to maintain a “reasonably modern” fleet. It will consider future disposals of smaller and older vessels, replacing them with newer vessels with larger carrying capacity and longer lives.

The capesize acquisition will be 70% funded by bank financing and the rest by internal resources.

It will be delivered between 1 July and 15 September.

TradeWinds earlier this week reported similar deals with Chinese buyers of capesize bulkers.

Theodore Veniamis-led Golden Union is said to be selling the 180,100-dwt Royal Iole (built 2009) to Chinese players for $24.1m.

The deals come amid multi-year high prices for such ships.
