The Laskaridis group has acquired a nine-year-old bulker from Peter Dohle Schiffahrts to add to its growing fleet of post-panamaxes, market sources said.
Some Greek brokers identified Laskaridis company Lavinia Corp as the buyer of the 93,300-dwt John Wulff (built 2010), which has been trading in Peter Dohle's fleet.
Low price
The Yangfan Group-built ship is said to have changed hands for $12.5m. The price seems rather low, considering VesselsValue estimates it is worth $14.9m.
Managers at Lavinia and Peter Dohle did not respond to a request for comment. However, brokers have known the John Wulff to be a sales candidate since July.
If a deal is confirmed, it would become the fourth ship Peter Dohle has shed in the past three months.
Previous sales
As TradeWinds reported, the German company sold the 56,900-dwt supramax Suse (built 2011) in late June to Greece’s P&P Shipping for about $10.8m, before it was renamed Captain John. Last week, Navigare Capital Partners bagged two large Peter Dohle containerships in what is believed to have been a sale-and-leaseback deal.
Hamburg-based Peter Dohle is not typically focused on post-panamaxes. The John Wulff is the only such ship featured on its website.
Lavinia, by contrast, is an avowed fan. It has five post-panamaxes similar to the John Wulff in its fleet, all built in China in 2010 or 2011.
Post-panamaxes are just a part of Lavinia’s diversified bulker fleet of 43 vessels, from ultramaxes to newcastlemaxes. The Laskaridis group also manages a smaller number of reefers, in addition to chemical and product tankers.
