The Laskaridis family's Lavinia Corp is said to have purchased its second capesize bulker this month.

The shipowner has bought the 180,000-dwt Cape Zenith (built 2010) from Japanese shipowning giant K Line, European shipbrokers said.

The Imabari Shipbuilding ship is changing hands for $29m, which is in line with expectation. Lavinia did not respond to requests for comment.

Early this month, Lavinia agreed to purchase the 180,000-dwt New Dalian (built 2010) for a price slightly lower than $27m. That deal is believed still to be on subjects.

New Dalian was in February reported sold to unidentified Greek buyers for $24m.

Lavinia is expanding its bulker fleet whilst at the same time getting rid of older reefer vessels which earlier formed the backbone of its operations.

The company lists 40 bulkers on its website, including six newcastlemaxes.

The Laskaridis brothers Panos and Thanassis also have four kamsarmax newbuildings under construction at Penglai Zhongbai Jinglu shipyard in China, ordered last year in a deal worth more than $100m in total.

At the same time, the Laskaridis brothers have sold two 1980s built reefers for demolition this summer.
