Four of Norden’s panamax chartering staff in Singapore and Copenhagen have resigned and are leaving to join capesize owner Classic Maritime.

The new hires represent the first foray into the panamax segment by Classic, which is controlled by Greek shipowner George Economou.

Thomas Kobbel, vice president and head of panamax, and senior chartering managers Jannick Madsen and Emil Mortensen have departed from Norden in Copenhagen.

Senior chartering manager Nicholai Syse has also resigned in Singapore.

The staff are understood to have resigned on Tuesday.

Norden confirmed the departures when approached by TradeWinds.

“The roles have already been filled internally by three colleagues with a combined experience of more than 60 years in dry cargo and panamax: Sophus Nielsen, Jacob Knudsen and Morten Bang,” Norden said.

“With a strong new team in place, our service to our customers remains unchanged.”

Classic declined to comment when approached by TradeWinds.

The new hires mean that Classic has a presence in Copenhagen and Singapore as well as its existing bases in Monaco.

Classic, which was established in 2008, has until now been a traditional-style operator of capesize bulk carriers.

It operates a fleet of 70 to 120 capesizes and newcastlemaxes at any given time, according to its website.
