Star Bulk Carriers has shifted its Geneva-based commercial activities to Singapore, the US-listed bulker owner has confirmed.

It said the activities have been transferred to a newly established wholly owned subsidiary under the name of Star Bulk (Singapore) Pte.

It gave no indication as to the timeframe for the move and gave no details as to whether staff in Geneva would relocate to the Lion Republic.

However, in late 2019 Star Bulk began recruiting a Singapore-based dry cargo freight trader, according to a posting on LinkedIn.

The accompany looks to have hired freight trader Zheng Yang Rebecca some two months ago, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She joined Star Bulk from Singapore-based trading company Bary Chemical where she spent just over 11 years most recently as manager of the shipping and chartering department.

Star Bulk’s Geneva-based commercial operation was originally established in October 2017 under the name Star Logistics Management.

It was designed to focus on servicing the end user by connecting origination and destination of dry bulk commodities.

It was expected to further expand the commercial capability of Star Bulk through additional commercial expertise and advanced tools on the kamsarmax and geared bulkers.

Moreover, it was also designed to provide the company with access to considerable cargo flow and market information.

Star Logistics was headed by Leonidas Giannakopoulos, who still appears to be chief executive of the operation according to his latest LinkedIn profile.
