Vietnam Maritime Corp (VIMC) is poised to make a second attempt to sell a 27-year-old handymax bulker it first put up for sale in February.

Brokers following the sale of the 27,300-dwt VIMC Green (built 1997) said on Thursday that the partially publicly listed company had indicated it is preparing a second sale by tender after bids for the ship failed to meet expectations.

The Oshima-built vessel, which flies the Panamanian flag, is described in the original sale documents as in trading condition, with its next docking survey due in September 2025.

Sources familiar with the ship described it as in good condition for its age.

The Equasis website indicates that it has been given a largely clean bill of health since VIMC acquired it from Emarat Maritime as the Dubai Guardian in 2009.

A spot assessment by VesselsValue pegs a trading value of $5.2m on the ship, while Clarksons estimates it to be worth $4.25m as scrap, based on $535 per ldt.

TradeWinds understands that VIMC sought a trading buyer in the original February sale attempt.

The VIMC Green continues to trade in the spot market while a buyer is being sought.

It is sailing from Indonesia to Bangladesh, with some brokers listing it as open for fixtures at Chattogram once its cargo has been discharged.

VIMC — formerly Vietnam National Shipping Lines — is the country’s largest shipowner with a mixed fleet of around 70 vessels operated by subsidiaries.

The company, which also invests in ports and logistics businesses, could not be reached for comment.
