A large harbor crane at the port of Antwerp in Belgium has collapsed into the sea after being struck by an APL containership.

According to reports the 9,200-teu APL Mexico City (built 2014) is said to have contacted the crane on Monday afternoon.

Numerous videos on various social media channels then show the crane collapsing into the water at the DP World terminal.

It is understood that the crane was unmanned at the time of the incident and that there are no reported injuries.

DP World Antwerp confirmed the incident in a posting on Twitter.

“Crane at DP World Antwerp quay 1700 collapses after collision with vessel at 2 PM this afternoon. No injuries. Operations will be resumed soon,” it said.

According to media reports citing the Antwerp Port Authority, the Singapore-flagged containership came adrift due to bad weather conditions.
