The library ship Logos Hope has been damaged in a collision with a bulker in Argentina.

The 12,500-gt passenger vessel (built 1973), operated by OM Ships International, was in the Parana River at the time of the accident last week involving the 56,000-dwt Desert Osprey (built 2015), according to the Rosario 3 website, which cited the navy.

No injuries were reported, but both ships suffered light damage, OM Ships said.

"There was a friction between the ships during a manoeuvre when passing," it added.

"The pilots were aboard both boats, guiding each ship on the river, and they were in communication during the incident."

It said: "Both ships immediately stopped their progress and anchored. The local coastguard personnel have arrived to evaluate the situation in more detail."

Logos Hope had been moored in Rosario since the end of May and was leaving the port.

In the past 45 years, OM's library ships have averaged 1m visitors per year.

Logos Hope offers 5,000 titles of mainly Christian literature.

Bulker operator Atlantic Bulk Carriers of Greece has been contacted for comment.
