A fresh attack on shipping has been reported in the Gulf of Aden, as the Houthis step up their campaign against commercial shipping.

A ship’s master told the UK Maritime Trade Operations that a “missile” had landed close to the vessel 52 nautical miles (96 km) south of the Yemeni city of Aden.

The incident happened on Tuesday evening, the UKMTO added.

The unnamed ship was reported to be safe and proceeding to its next port of call.

There has been a recent uptick in Houthi attacks in recent days and weeks. Evalend Shipping’s 82,000-dwt Tutor (built 2022) was sunk and a seafarer on board was killed after the bulker was struck by a “sea drone” and a missile in a “double-tap” attack.

At the end of last week, a Stealth Maritime vessel was targeted multiple times.

The Houthis named that ship as the 178,000-dwt capesize Transworld Navigator (built 2010).

The fate of a Ukrainian bulker Verbena is also unknown after it was struck last week.

And maritime security firm Diaplous and the UKMTO reported a Comoros-flagged vessel taking on water after an unknown incident.
