One Pacific Basin bulker crewman has died on a vessel off Mauritius, but all other crew are now said to be safe.

No cause has yet emerged, but the seafarer who died on the 29,800-dwt Baltic Sea (built 2001) was the subject of an urgent medical evacuation off Port Mathurin on Friday, Defi Media reported.

Local media said two more men were taken to the Creve-Coeur hospital in Rodrigues after a distress call from the captain.

The Hong Kong-flagged vessel has been at the port since Wednesday.

The company told TradeWinds: "With much regret, we confirm the very sad news that one of our crew passed away on board our vessel Baltic Sea on Wednesday off Mauritius despite the vessel deviating to the nearest port and activating medevac.

"The cause of death is still under investigation. We send our deep condolences to his family and are providing assistance to his family during this difficult time.

"All other crew remain on board and are in good health. The vessel resumed voyage on 15 June."
