A teenage shipyard worker has died and three others were injured after an explosion ripped through a tank barge in Bangladesh on Saturday.

Police named the deceased as 15-year-old Sabbir Ahmed, according to police.

His elder brother Robin Ahmed, 22, Sohel, 18, and Nazir, 22, were taken from Ananda Shipyard & Slipways to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sonargaon police station.

The blast occurred during blowtorch work, he added.

Robin Ahmed sustained 95% burns, according to Bachchu Mia, inspector of DMCH police outpost. He added that the other two workers were released after treatment.

An officer of the shipyard was detained for questioning, said Moniruzzaman.
