Containership operator APL has sold a third vessel for scrapping and more are in the pipeline.
TradeWinds has learned that the 66,520-dwt APL Singapore has gone to cash buyer NKD Maritime, which also secured the sisterships APL Korea and APL Japan (all built 1995).
The trio were sold for green recycling in India on an as is basis Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Sources said the 23,245 lwt APL Singapore fetched around $380 per ldt.
APL Singapore is already at anchorage in Alang. It is scheduled for delivery Thursday for beaching over the coming weekend, according to sources.
The APL Korea arrived in Alang Wednesday.
Sistership APL Japan was earlier beached in Alang. Broking sources have now said the APL Japan was sold for $390 per ldt, higher than earlier reported, and resold to an end recycler for $410 per ldt.
All three APL vessels were built in Germany at Howaldtswerke-Deutche Werft (HDW). Although the APL Singapore formed part of the same series, it is not identical to the APL Korea and APL Japan.
It is understood that APL’s intention is to market for recycling at the end of this year or early 2020 two similar HDW-built vessels.
Singapore-based APL is a subsidiary of French liner group CMA CGM.
