Oslo-listed start-up MPC Container Ships has revealed another three vessel acquisitions as its fleet expansion continues.

It said it had bought and taken over the 2003-built sisterships Carpathia and Cordelia (2,824 teu), as well as the 1,200-teu Mare Frio (built 2003), which will be delivered at the end of this month and renamed AS Fiona.

The price is $11m combined. It holds 50% of Carpathia and Cordelia.

TradeWinds reported in February that these two ships were part of insolvency proceedings concerning five units in the fleet of Ahrenkiel Steamships, which continues to manage them.

Bankruptcy proceedings began on the KG (limited partnership) companies owning them, paving the way for their sale from the stable of Ahrenkiel’s parent company, MPC Capital, which spun off MPC Container Ships.

Last month, MPC Containerships said it had acquired seven ships and agreed deals for another six for a total price of $80m.

The six consisted of one unit of 1,200 teu, one 2,500-teu vessel and four 2,800-teu units.

TradeWinds had previously reported the purchase of Mare Frio for $5.3m.
