Oslo-listed MPC Container Ships (MPCC) has fixed the first of its scrubber-fitted boxships on term deals.

The company said that eight of the 10 vessels that will be fitted with the exhaust gas cleaning systems have found work for between two and three years with major operators.

The rate was described as "attractive" and there is a savings-sharing mechanism involved to apportion the gains from not having to buy more expensive IMO 2020-compliant fuel.

MPCC is running its other 58 ships on low-sulphur bunkers.

The first three ships in the scrubber programme have now been equipped with the systems.

The rest will be converted in the second half of this year.

Last month, MPCC said it added $13m to a loan to refinance and retrofit two vessels.

The feedership specialist said the cash was drawn down under an agreement with Beal Bank.

The money will be used to refinance and fit scrubbers to the 2,556-teu AS Palina and AS Petra (both built 2004).
