Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has posted an increase in container volumes and revenue for the second quarter.

The Hong Kong-based container line posted revenue of $1.57bn during the three-month period, which is a year-on-year increase of 7.1%.

OOCL said loadable capacity grew by 6.4%, but the overall load factor was 1.4% lower, compared to the same period last year.

The shipowner, which is now controlled by China's Cosco, said it carried 1.77 million teu during the three-month period, up 4.6% from 1.69 million teu in the second quarter 2018.

Half-year results

Similar progress was seen in OOCL's first-half results for 2019, when compared to the first six months of 2018.

Total revenue recorded a 6.5% growth and total container volumes increased by 3.2% year on year.

Revenue for the first half was $3.03bn, up from $2.84bn last year.

OOCL carried 3.37 million teu during the first six months of 2019, compared to 3.27 million teu in the first half of 2018.

The company said its overall average revenue per teu increased by 3.3%, compared to the same period last year.
