Clipper Group and the Danish government have sold out of Danske Faerger (Danish Ferries).

The two have each sold 50% to domestic operator Mols-Linien for DKK 594.1m ($92m).

The move sees Mols-Linien take over six ro-paxes.

Closing of the sale will take place in the near future.

Clipper has been involved in the Danish ferry business for more than 10 years.

"The sale of Danske Faerger marks our exit from the passenger ferry segment, further strengthening our focus on bulk and ro-ro activities," it said.

Morten Hvidtfeldt, head of corporate finance, added: “We have been very pleased with our shareholding in Danske Faerger.

"'Faergen' is a professional and well operated company providing essential ferry connections across the country. We are certain that the company, under the ownership of Mols-Linien, will continue to be a vital and important player in the Danish infrastructure."

Last year, it was reported that the state was considering selling its 50% stake.

A government spokesperson told TradeWinds at the time: "A prospective future buyer will have to respect existing agreements, including agreements on service of current ferry crossings, thus ferry services will not be affected by a potential sale."

Clipper had no comment at the time.

The shipowner had previously said it wanted to retain its interest, describing it as a good business.
