Denmark's DFDS has agreed to sell two older ro-paxes as it renews its fleet.

It has struck a deal to offload the 1,539-lane-metre Kaunas Seaways (built 1989) and the 1,700-lane-metre Vilnius Seaways (built 1987) to Ukraine's Ukrferry.

Delivery is expected in July. No price was given.

Ukrferry has had the vessels on time charter for several years in the Black Sea.

They were previously deployed in DFDS' Baltic route network.

The sale will affect the employment of around 70 crew, but DFDS is seeking to employ them on its own ships "to the greatest possible extent," it said.

The sale should bring a profit of around DKK 20m ($3.12m).

The Danish owner has recently booked three new vessels.

Earlier this month it said it had ordered a freight ro-ro at CSC Jinling Shipyard in China, which will be delivered in the first half of 2020.

In February, it contracted two ro-paxes at CSSC's Guangzhou Shipyard International in Nansha for DKK 1.8bn ($296.5m).

And it has also bought the fleet of Turkey's U.N. Ro-Ro for $1.1bn.
