Maersk Broker has continued the growth of its dry cargo operation with a new venture in Germany.

It comes at the same time as two well-known industry names with an background with shipowners have been recruited.

Market sources tell TradeWinds Maersk Broker has formed a new dry cargo venture with Hamburg brokerage Stratos Albis Schiffahrt.

It is understood that Nicolai Kohls will transfer from Maersk Broker's Copenhagen headquarters to join up with the Stratos Albis team of five brokers in the German shipping hub.

Maersk Broker, privately owned by Ane Maersk Mc-Kinney Uggla and her sisters, has been actively growing its dry cargo activity during the past couple of years.

In April last year Maersk Broker hired a string of former Lightship brokers in Copenhagen, while its London team was boosted with the arrival of a number of former ACM staffers.

Now former Navig8 chartering chief manager Christian Parsbo has been added to the London team, sources say.

Further progress in the dry market during the past couple of years has seen Maersk Broker take a strategic stake in Wonsild Dry and buy a majority holding in Lanic.

It is not only in the bulker market that Maersk Broker has been expanding.

Former Torm and Heidmar executive Jesper Bo Hansen has been recruited as managing director of Maersk Broker Advisory Services.
