Maersk Broker is taking full ownership of Lanic in which it has been the majority shareholder for a little over a year.

The Danish broking giant says the move fits its ambition to expand and the Lanic business will now fall under the umbrella of Maersk Broker Bulk Chartering.

“This latest development will allow all our brokers to provide our clients with an even higher volume of tangible information, market coverage as well as opportunities via the global Maersk Broker Bulk Chartering organisation and network,” a statement said.

Maersk Broker first bought into Lanic in March 2016, however, at that time managing Michael Kraefting retained a stake in the business.

“The consolidation of the Lanic business will further enhance our services and provide synergies to the benefit of our combined group of clients,” Maersk Broker added today.

Privately-owned Maersk Broker has been on the expansion trail for the past couple of years, particularly in the dry cargo market, with a December 2015 strategic partnership with Wonsild among its other transactions.

Earlier this month Maersk Broker recruited five brokers to expand its panamax and capesize bulker business in Singapore and Copenhagen.

Christian Norup, formerly of Fearnleys, and ex-Howe Robinson staffers Sean Higgins and Victor Hsu will join in Singapore during September.

In Copenhagen, Nikolaj Duch Jorgensen, ex-Bidsted, will join the panamax team in early August and Andrea Organista will start as a junior broker in mid-July.

This year has also seen Maersk Broker firm a new venture in Germany involving Hamburg brokerage Stratos Albis Schiffahrt.
