Singapore’s Jurong Port has named former PSA high-flyer Ng Chee Keong as its new chairman with immediate effect.

He assumes the position at the country’s major multi-purpose port from Lee Chong Kwee who has held the appointment since 2009.

Ng, who also currently sits on the board of Samudera Shipping Lines, was formerly part of the senior leadership at the PSA until his retirement in 2015.

Apart from a change in chairmanship, two new board members, Robert Yap Min Choy, and V. Sivarajan, will join the organisation.

Sivarajan has been with the port industry for 40 years and was formerly the managing director of PSA Marine and PSA India.

Jurong Port recently began operations at its new Combi Terminal, which is designed to improve the efficiency of calls by multi-purpose vessels.

The new terminal means such vessels no longer need to call at separate terminals or berths to load or unload different cargo types.

Instead, they can berth at the Combi Terminal to concurrently move containers and general cargo using quay cranes seamlessly.

Besides Singapore, Jurong Port is involved in overseas joint ventures in China and Indonesia.

In 2015, Jurong Port’s local and overseas terminals handled close to 34mt of general and bulk cargo, and 560,000-teu.
