Former Norwegian shipping analyst Jo Ringheim has re-emerged at DNB Markets after leaving Arctic Securities in June.

Ringheim could not reveal details of his new employer back then due to competition restrictions.

But he has now confirmed to TradeWinds that he will stay in shipping by making a switch into banking at the investment banking arm of Norway's biggest lender.

Ringheim told TradeWinds: "I've had five great years as a shipping analyst at Arctic, having had the opportunity to advise and discuss shipping with a large number of investors globally and get to know many of the world's leading shipping companies."

He added that as part of DNB Markets' investment banking team, shipping markets will be his core focus.

"DNB has served the maritime industry for more than 50 years and the maritime segments are priority areas within DNB's international strategy," he said.

"I considered the opportunity as unique on the back of DNB's global presence and long-term commitment, a group of great people and an extensive track record as a leading maritime advisor."

Part-time to full-time

Ringheim joined Arctic Securities in August 2016, at first as a part-time analyst in shipping, oil, retail, construction and renewables.

By the following year, he was a full-time credit and equity analyst in shipping.

Ringheim began his career in 2015 as an intern at Nordea Markets, where he covered fixed-income, currencies and commodities sectors.

He spent a year as a professional cyclist in Norway in 2014.

Last year, Oslo-based equity analyst Nicolay Dyvik said he was moving over to banking duties at DNB Markets after nearly a decade in research there.

He now heads shipping as managing director at the investment banking arm.
