Maersk Broker has enjoyed a “very active” first half to 2018 despite challenges in many markets.

The development follows an increase in profit during 2017 and considerable investments in the dry cargo chartering and offshore segments.

Anders Hald, chief executive of Maersk Broker, said in an update on the company’s LinkedIn group: “The third quarter has started on a high note despite the summer season, considerable new business is in the pipeline.”

He added: “Most of the main tonnage segments are still faced with considerable challenges, and our role – and ambitions – are clearly to improve our engagement and service to the extent that we can qualify as partners and consultants in relation to our many clients.

“We have made considerable investments into both dry bulk chartering and indeed the offshore segment. With assistance from Maersk Broker Advisory Services and our growing number of very qualified research colleagues, we are on the right path.”

As TradeWinds has reported, the privately-owned brokerage secured a profit of DKK 44.9m ($7.1m) in 2017, beating the DKK 29.8m seen in 2016.

“It is too early to make predictions as to the full-year 2018 results," Hald told TradeWinds in May.

"But the volume of new business generated during the first four months of this year does fuel the likelihood of both achieving and hopefully exceeding the financial results of the previous couple of years.”
