Shipping and logistics veteran Margareta Alestig is the new chairman of Swedish shortsea specialist Erik Thun.

She takes up the position with immediate effect. The Gothenburg-based company did not disclose who Alestig is replacing in the role and the reason for their departure.

Alestig, who sits on the board of Wallenius Wilhelmsen, is also deputy managing director of the Sixth Swedish National Pension Fund.

She previously served as chief financial officer for six-and-a-half years at Swedish tanker owner Brostrom.

“Margareta has extensive experience from the shipping and the logistics industry, as well as the financial industry, both as operative management and from board assignments,” Erik Thun said in a statement.

“We are looking forward to be working together with Margareta and we believe that her wide and profound experience will be important when developing the Erik Thun group further."

Erik Thun Group is a family company established in Lidkoping in 1938 by Helge Kallsson, now involving a third generation.

Its core business is shipping and its fleet of about 50 vessels is mainly employed in shortsea operations in and around northern Europe.

Its shipping operations comprise dry cargo, self-unloading vessels, coastal and intermediate size product tankers and cement carriers.
