Maritime lender Standard Chartered has welcomed back Tyler Kim to its shipping team in Hong Kong.

The company told TradeWinds he has been reappointed as director of shipping finance.

He will work under head of shipping finance Abhishek Pandey, who is based in Singapore. Kim will focus on structured finance for the bank.

He left the lender in September 2018 to become an asset manager for CLSA Capital Partners.

During his previous five years at Standard Chartered he was associate director of structured shipping finance.

Kim is a Cornell University graduate and was mainly based in Seoul before moving to Hong Kong in 2015.

Standard Chartered's shipping finance team is currently advertising a vacancy in Singapore at associate director level.

Shipping shake-up

In March last year, the UK-headquartered lender said it had promoted Pandey to the top shipping job.

The Indian national was previously managing director for ASEAN, South Asia and Africa and the Middle East, focusing on shipping and offshore asset financing.

Former global shipping chief Nigel Anton, based in Hong Kong, took on the role of managing director for structured finance.

He is focusing on the shipping operating lease portfolio, the bank told TradeWinds.

Pandey joined Standard Chartered in 2007 and is based in Singapore.

Before this, he was part of Chilean owner CSAV's corporate team, working on strategy and project development, having joined from Helios & Matheson, where he was general manager.

He started his career as a ship's officer and spent six years at sea, becoming a first officer.
