Thomas Wilhelmsen’s aim for the Norwegian shipping group to make greater use of technology seems to be taking off.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service seems to have been paying attention to the group chief executive and has announced it will soon be delivering via drone.

Documents, medical supplies, as well as tank inspections and cargo monitoring could all be achieved via semi-autonomous drone flights, WSS Ships Agency vice president Marius Johansen says.

It is estimated the use of drones will cut costs and delivery times to vessels at anchorage.

“Relied upon by owners, operators, vessels and crew to get spare parts, medicine, documents, or cash to master where it needs to be at moment’s notice, drone delivery is a natural extension of our existing agency service portfolio,” Johansen said.
