Golar LNG's project to use a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to supply onshore power plants took another step ahead as it lines up term contract with Qatar Petroleum for LNG supply.

Ocean LNG, the international LNG marketing arm of Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil, will supply 1.3 million tonnes per annum to the joint venture between Golar Power and Brazilian electric utility Ebrasil.

The two are collaborating on the Porto de Sergipe power project.

"This is an important milestone in the development of the Porto de Sergipe power plant," Golar Power chief executive Eduardo Antonello said. "Golar Power is proud to partner with LNG industry pioneers Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil and their newly formed Ocean LNG joint venture as its long-term fuel supplier."

Golar Power, a joint venture between Golar LNG and partner Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners, finalised deals last month allowing  them to move forward with the Sergipe project. The contracts included a 25-year charter for Golar LNG's newbuilding FSRU Golar Nanook.
