Trader PowerGlobe is on the hunt for an LNG carrier to take on long-term charter to cover its shipments into the under-construction Croatia LNG terminal.

PowerGlobe said it plans to offer a 10-year time-charter agreement on the vessel to cover the capacity it has recently booked at upcoming terminal on northern Adriatic island of Krk.

A company spokesman told TradeWinds a vessel of up to 180,000-cbm is required. He said the intention is to finalise a charter by August.

The Qatari company, which is the energy arm of Optimized Holding, said it has booked capacity at the new Croatian facility equal to 0.468 billion cbm per annum over a 15-year period.

PowerGlobe said it is looking for more capacity at other European LNG import terminals.

The long-planned Krk island terminal, which will use a floating storage and regasification unit, is due to start up from 1 January.

Golar Power won the job of supplying the FSRU and is undertaking the conversion of its LNG carrier, 140,000-cbm Golar Viking (built 2015) into the regas unit in Singapore.

The LNG carrier-to-FSRU conversion is due to be delivered in the period from 30 September to 30 October 2020 to allow the terminal to be fully operational by the start of next year.

The new Croatian facility will be able to supply 2.6bn cbm of gas annually and is designed to serve the domestic market and the wider region.

The terminal manager LNG Croatia plans to expand with an onshore terminal in a second phase of the development.
