Samsung Heavy Industries has extended its LNG carrier newbuilding hot streak.

Seoul-listed Samsung has added a single KRW 210m ($189m) vessel at the end of what has been a busy December, it announced on New Year’s Eve.

While the identity of the shipowner behind the latest deal was not disclosed, the shipbuilder did say the client was from Europe.

Samsung has the second largest LNG carrier orderbook behind compatriot DSME and has now secured contracts for 18 of the ships in 2018.

The shipbuilder has also snared contracts for 13 containerships among the 49 vessels worth $6.3m it has been awarded this year.

GasLog, TMS Cardiff Gas, Minerva Marine, NYK and Celsius Shipping are among the shipowners to have placed LNG carriers at Samsung this year.
