Shipbroker Simpson Spence Young has created a new LNG research position as the company grows its specialised gas team.

SSY said Kyla Schliebs is immediately stepping into the new role of head of LNG research.

Schliebs joins the UK-headquartered broker with a background in gas and LNG gained from consultancy, utilities and production companies.

A chartered engineer, she has a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Melbourne in Australia and others in finance and petroleum engineering.

Schliebs worked with Santos GLNG in its commercial operations team, where she held a variety of roles including the management of the gas supply chain for the LNG plant.

She was later employed as a senior analyst at utility EDF Energy, with a focus on the European and UK gas and power markets.

More recently, she worked as a gas and LNG principal consultant for Wood Mackenzie.

Schliebs will bump up SSY’s growing LNG team to 13.

She will be based in London and work alongside the SSY LNG team and the brokerage’s wider research team.

SSY managing director of LNG Toby Dunipace highlighted Schliebs’ “deep knowledge of the energy sector”.

“Kyla will bring extensive knowledge of the gas and LNG industries, with particular experience in gas trading, power markets, as well as global gas & LNG,” he said.

SSY’s LNG division was set up in 2004 and now has coverage in London, Singapore, Stamford, Beijing, Madrid and Mumbai offices.
