France's TechnipFMC has landed a huge contract to help Novatek develop its new Arctic LNG 2 project in western Siberia.

The offshore engineering company, which has a fleet of offshore vessels, will bank $7.6bn for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work in the Gydan peninsula.

The development will consist of three LNG trains, each with a capacity of 6.6 mtpa, which will be installed on three gravity-based structure platforms.

TechnipFMC said the equipment will be made in Asian and Russian shipyards.

The contract terms provide for the launch of the first train of the project in 2023. Novatek had previously announced a deal, but had provided few details.

Nello Uccelletti, president of onshore/offshore at TechnipFMC, said: “We are extremely honoured to be entrusted with this new contract by Novatek and its partners.

"We are leveraging our successful track record on the Yamal LNG project and notably the modular fabrication scheme."

He added: "This project recognises the experience and expertise of our teams as well as their capacity to deliver the most ambitious and innovative projects.

"It also confirms the leadership of TechnipFMC both in the LNG market and in the transition journey of the global energy industry.”

Novatek is ordering between 15 and 17 new LNG carriers for the project, which is now also co-owned by Total and Chinese companies.
