Russia's United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) is working on a new project to build power-generating vessels fuelled by LNG.

It has teamed up with domestic designer Korall CDB to develop units with electrical capacity of 40MW and 80MW, IAA PortNews cited USC president Aleksey Rakhmanov as telling reporters.

Capital investment per kW is estimated at between $1,200 and $1,300 - comparable to conventional energy projects, the group said.

The project also foresees the construction of a series of 2,000-cbm bunker vessels.

The state yard expects to win orders from both domestic and overseas clients.

The project has already entered the pre-contract phase, Rakhmanov added.
