The West of England P&I Club has recruited Will Tobin as part of its drive to expand its exposure to the offshore market.

He joins from The Shipowners’ Club, another International Group Club, where he has spent the past 16 years, most recently as offshore syndicate manager.

“Will has substantial experience in the offshore sector and until recently held a similar position at another International Group Club,” West of England said.

“He will augment the West of England’s existing offshore team, helping to expand the Club’s client base and project their service to a global membership in this specialised area of operation.”

The Club has identified offshore as an area for growth as it complements their “existing product portfolio” as well as building on “existing knowledge and experience”.

Commenting on this appointment Tom Bowsher, global chief executive, said “Will is well known throughout this market and brings a wealth of experience with him.

“This is further evidence of our determination to grow and diversify our business in a manner which benefits our Members by investing in the right products and people.”

TradeWinds reported last month that the Club was expanding into the offshore market as it embarks on an ambitious diversification strategy.

“Offshore complements and secures areas where we already have experience,” managing director Tom Bowsher said at the time.

“That is what we want to do with our diversification generally — we want to look at products in which we can use our experience and knowledge and further enhance our business.

“We are confident that with the appointments we will announce shortly, we will have a team that can support our growth in the market.”
