BP has launched pre-qualification for competitive engineering studies that could lead to a construction contract at its Tangguh expansion project (pictured). The operator is planning a major build-out at the existing two-train Indonesian LNG export plant.Onshore infrastructure to be added will comprise a 3.8 million tonnes per annum third train, an additional jetty, an LNG storage tank, a condensate storage tank and the necessary related utilities.“Marine and onshore infrastructure to support logistics and the increase in the temporary and permanent workforce” are also set to be part of the work scope, according to a document published by Indonesian regulator BPMigas.Offshore expansion, including two platforms, pipelines and wells, will be carried out separately. The expansion infrastructure will be located next to the existing export plant on the Tangguh site in West Papua.BP is proposing to run a competition with two companies chosen to carry out dual front-end engineering and design studies. One of those contractors will then be selected to continue on with engineering, procurement and construction. This work will also include certain support services in the commissioning, start-up and early operating phase. The proposed local content for the programme is 35%, according to the pre-qualification document.A final investment decision on the expansion is due in the middle of 2013 with train 3 expected to come online by 2019.Output from the new unit will likely be targeted at Indonesia’s gas-hungry domestic market.
