Norwegian operator Statoil and its partners have abandoned plans to develop a second liquefaction train for the Snohvit LNG project for the time being. Gas volumes in the Barents Sea field are not large enough to justify the investment, Statoil said. Statoil and Snohvit partners Petoro, Total, GDF Suez and RWE Dea have not decided whether an LNG expansion or a new pipeline would be the best option for a future capacity increase, Statoil said. For the time being, Statoil said the Snohvit owners will focus on improving the first train at Melkoya near Hammerfest and develop new volumes through the existing facilities. The plans include five new subsea templates and 12 new wells to develop the Askeladd satellite, as well as a future compression solution for the field.
