*The South Hook LNG terminal in South Wales has appointed a new general manager. Qatar Petroleum International’s Yasser Al Jaidah is stepping into the hot seat, taking over from Mohammed Al Naimi. SHLNG said Yasser, held the position of inlet facilities project lead for the RasGas phase two expansion and was also seconded to terminal partner ExxonMobil as a project execution engineer in Houston. QPI, ExxonMobil and Total control the 15.6 million tonnes per annum UK regas facility.*Qatari officials have met with Egyptian Minister of Petroleum Osama Kamal to hammer out details of a proposed gas-importing contract. Under the proposed contract, an estimated 400 million to 500 million cubic feet per day of LNG would be shipped to Egypt, daily newspaper al Ahram reported. Separately, Qatar has said it will invest in a new LNG facility planned for the northern city of Port Said. The project will be part of an $8 billion complex that will include power, iron and steel plants. Egypt currently hosts two LNG export facilities, one in Damietta and one at Idku.*Cyprus’ Public Gas Corporation (Defa) is looking to source new gas supplies by the end of the year. Defa is seeking a player to deliver 1.2 billion cubic metres of gas per annum up until September 2018 to supply the Vasilikos power station. The company said that interested parties can propose “any means of supply and transport of natural gas: liquefied, compressed or other”. An invitation for expressions of interest has been issued and will remain open until 29 October.
