Shipmanager V.Group has appointed Ulla Eithz Nielsen to run its containership-focused German office.

The Danish shipping executive has taken on the position as managing director of V.Ships Germany.

She replaces the well-known figure of Nils Aden, who has held the position since January 2019 and who is leaving to pursue new opportunities.

The change of management comes two years after V.Group and its private equity parent Advent acquired container shipowner Norddeutsche Reederei H Schuldt and merged it with its own operation in Hamburg.

Its goal since then has been to develop the German division as V.Group's "container centre of expertise and our main hub of operations to serve both our German and international container customers", said V.Ships chief executive officer Franck Kayser.

"Ulla’s appointment supports this strategic ambition and she will provide the leadership and direction required in her new role."

Nielsen began her maritime career as a deck officer with AP Moller and worked with Maersk Line, Norden and Norient Product Pool.

She joined V.Group in 2019 as chief operating officer of operational excellence, where she has been replaced in Hamburg by Loris Di Maio.

Another Dane

The move comes ahead of other changes in the V.Group management.

The company is preparing for a major change at board level next month when Rene Kofod-Olsen will take over as chief executive.

The experienced Danish executive succeeds industry veteran Graham Westgarth on 1 November.

Kofod-Olsen joins from P&O Maritime Logistics, where he was chief executive until he quit in March 2020 less than a year into the job.

He is also a former Maersk man, working at Svitzer for 15 years throughout Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Kofod-Olsen will be V.Group's third chief executive in two years, following on from Westgarth, who is stepping up as chairman,

He took over from Ian El-Mokadem, who held the position for two years after its takeover in 2017 by Advent.
