AqualisBraemar has promoted Dirk Jol to become head of its adjusting division in the Middle East and India.

The move by the shipping and insurance consultancy comes amid an effort to build up its global team.

Jol is a specialist in the investigation and resolution of claims and commercial disputes in the maritime and offshore energy sectors.

He has been with AqualisBraemar since 2015, and held senior roles at the company’s Dubai and Singapore offices.

Before this he worked for six years at McDermott International in Singapore, plus a couple of years at Tidewater Marine.

Jol holds a degree in civil engineering from Purdue University in the US.

AqualisBraemar offers consultancy services to the offshore energy, shipping and insurance industries through its engineers, naval architects, master mariners, loss adjusters and technical consultants.

In December, the company said it had launched an international recruitment drive to ramp up its adjustment business.

The combined company was formed last June after Aqualis bought three of UK shipbroker Braemar's technical businesses.

AqualisBraemar had its sights set on adding "several" new faces in London and Singapore, as well as increasing the size of teams in the US, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates.

The total number of hires will depend on the level of qualified personnel available, the company added.

Wide ranging push

It's expansion efforts are aimed at the oil, gas, power and shipping sectors, where it believes it will find growing business despite the ups and downs of the markets..

“While general activity levels in the energy and marine industries tend to fluctuate with the oil price and other parameters, a growing world economy continues to increase the total amount of industrial assets in operation," Geoff Jones, group managing director of AqualisBraemar’s adjusting business, said in December.

"The latter tends to translate into an increase in disputes and insurance claims, which is where we play an important role for our clients.”
