Teekay has been taken to task over “performance failures” on one of its floating, storage and offloading (FSO) vessels operating off Australia.

Singapore-based Jadestone Energy said it was in discussions with the company regarding the FSO Dampier Spirit (built 1988), which is deployed on the Stag oilfield.

Jadestone said operations at the field have been impacted by a series of unplanned downtime events “arising from the repeated failure of critical safety equipment”.

The company said a series of “marine breakaway coupling events” happened due, in part, to “incorrect installation, as well as to poor maintenance of the device by the FSO operator”.

Jadestone said the “coupling events” resulted in the FSO being unable to receive Stag oil, leading to the deferment of 59,137 barrels of oil to the end of December 2017.

Between 1987 and 1997, the Dampier Spirit operated as a conventional aframax tanker. Since then, she has operated on the Stag oil field offshore Western Australia.
