Karina Deacon is to join DFDS Group as its chief financial officer, following Torben Carlsen's promotion from the position earlier this year.

Deacon start work in the role on 1 January 2020, according to an Oslo Stock Exchange filing on Monday.

Carlsen was promoted to president and chief executive of the group on 1 May.

Deacon's primary task at DFDS will be "to drive continued earnings growth", the company said.

"Her experience from successful listed companies and significant international career fit perfectly with her new role at DFDS," Carlsen commented.

"Together with Karina I look forward to achieving the ambitions of our new Win 23 strategy. In this respect, Karina's experience with efficiency and transformations will be of great value to DFDS."

The Oslo-listed group last month launched a new five-year plan, in which it will aim to grow its revenue by developing and expanding its shipping network, which will include acquisition of other businesses.

Deacon will join Carlsen on the group's board and will be part of DFDS' executive team.

She is currently in post as group chief financial officer of Nilfisk, a Copenhagen-listed supplier of cleaning equipment.

She previously held the same role at Landic Property and at Saxo Bank, and has worked in management, finance and accounting roles at PWC and ISS.
