Finnlines CEO Emanuele Grimaldi has been honoured in Finland for his services to the country.

He became a Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland on Wednesday, the company said.

The Finnish president, Sauli Niinisto, made the presentation.

The award is made to "individuals who have distinguished themselves in the service of Finland," Finnlines said.

The Finnish ambassador to Italy, Janne Taalas, said the decoration is recognition of Grimaldi’s long-term efforts in Finland and at Finnlines, which is extremely significant to Finnish exports.

"There are only very few foreign citizens who have been honoured with the decoration of this high level," the company added.
