Thirteen P&O ferries crew have failed a random drugs test.

The Sun daily reported that the checks on 104 seafarers took place on the 30,600–gt Pride of Canterbury (built 1991), which plies a cross-Channel route from the UK to France.

Urine samples were taken on two crossings last Thursday.

The company said it would sack anyone found to have broken its zero-tolerance policy on drugs.

No officers failed the tests.

A P&O Ferries spokesman said: “As part of routine drugs testing of our crews, 13 individuals on the Pride of Canterbury recorded non-negative tests, which have now been sent for further analysis.

“P&O Ferries operates a zero tolerance policy towards substance abuse and any employees not complying with it will be dismissed.

“No substances were found but Port of Dover police have been routinely informed.”
