Saga Travel chief executive Robin Shaw admits to being a workaholic.
Married with three children — including eight-year-old twins — he says: “I am one of those sad people who still enjoy coming to work.”
He joined Saga in 2010, first as chief executive of Saga Cruises before becoming head of Saga Travel in January last year.
Before this, Shaw spent about seven years at Royal Caribbean — latterly as vice president, managing director for UK and Ireland — and a period with Avis Europe.
“They realised I was too much of a busybody to stay in finance so at Avis I became group controller and moved to being VP of fleet and operations for Europe,” the 55-year-old says.
Shaw trained originally as an accountant, spending seven years at PepsiCo International in various finance and strategic planning roles.
What little spare time Shaw has sees him “dabble” at golf.
Is he any good?
“Yes,” he replies confidently. “I don’t play much now, but I still manage to hold down a seven handicap.”
