Fednav, Canada’s largest dry bulk shipping company, held a 75th anniversary party at the Aura Sky Lounge atop the National Gallery Singapore.

Some 150 shipping executives were treated to the venue's view of the country’s iconic landmarks, including City Hall and Marina Bay Sands.

The celebration was one of a series of events held around the world by the family-run company to celebrate the milestone.

“I have been to all offices around the world to fly Fednav’s flag. Singapore will be my last stop for the 2019 world tour, but an important stop,” chief executive Paul Pathy said.

'Big deal'

“Seventy-five years is not a long time by Asia’s standards, but Canada is only 150 years old as a country. So, for us Canadians, it is half of the country’s existence and it is a big deal.”

Headquartered in Montreal, Fednav has offices in Tokyo, Hamburg, Antwerp, Barbados, Rio de Janeiro, St John’s in Canada and Charlotte in the US.

It specialises in bulkers below kamsarmax in size. The privately owned company operates a fleet of about 120 vessels, of which 63 are owned.

Fednav set up shop in Singapore in 2011 with a chartering team of just three people. Its headcount in the city has since doubled.
