Swire Bulk has hired Henrik Sleimann Petersen as head of asset management from 1 September. He will also be a member of the Singapore firm’s executive management team.

The former group director of Ultrabulk Shipping in Dubai has been on gardening leave since early this year.

With over 37 years of shipping experience, Petersen’s will be involved in Swire Bulk’s technical S&P, newbuilding, technical management and long-term chartering activities.

Petersen said he is glad to be returning to Singapore after being away from the garden city for two years.

“I look forward to joining an amazing team and a well-established and proven great brand,” he said.

Petersen started his shipping career with AP Moller-Maersk in 1986 and was there for eight years. He was previously general manager for tonnage procurement and business development at Eitzen Bulk in Copenhagen for 11 years and a senior partner in a Danish dry cargo broker Danbroker for three years.

Headquartered in Singapore, Swire Bulk is the dry cargo arm of the Swire Group. The company has a trading fleet of around 125 handysize, supramax and ultramax bulk carriers at any time.

Since 2020, the company has also partnered Swire Projects, which operates multipurpose and heavylift vessels, to utilise Swire Bulk vessels’ backhaul capacity in carrying renewable cargoes including turbine blades and towers.

The China Navigation Co (CNCo), the parent of Swire Bulk and the Swire Group, celebrated its 150th anniversary in January.

CNCo is controlled by the Swire family, which hail from the UK but have historically focused their business dealings in China.
