Taiwanese Shih Wei Navigation’s founder, Lan Jun De, has resigned as chairman of the company due to health issues, to be replaced by his daughter.

The Taipei-listed bulker company has appointed general manager Irene Lan Shin-Chyi as the new chairwoman.

A graduate from National Taiwan Ocean University, Irene Lan worked in a shipping company in Denmark for two years upon graduation.

One of two twin sisters, she joined Shih Wei in 2000, started her career there as an assistant to the chairman and rose through the ranks. Lan’s twin sister is not involved in shipping.

Lan Jun De, also known as JD Lan, founded Shih Wei in 1985. He is the brother of James Lan – the owner of Wisdom Marine Lines.

According to Shih Wei’s website, the company owns a fleet of 39 bulkers ranging in size from handysize to kamsarmax. The shipowner's fleet also includes seven multipurpose pulp carriers and four woodchip carriers.

According to VesselsValue, Shih Wei sold two ships this year – the 12,000-dwt tweendecker Superior Precadores (built 2005) and the 11,600-dwt handysize bulker Fodas Precadores (built 2001). The sales prices were not mentioned.
