Wilhemsen Ship Management’s Singapore managing director Shubpreet Singh has joined rival ship manager V Ships as its managing director for the UK and America.

The ship management veteran has relocated to Glasgow, Scotland in order to take on his new role, he revealed in a Linkedin post on Friday.

Singh had a relatively short stint at Wilhelmsen, having only joined the company in May 2021.

Prior to that, he spent six years with OSM Ship Management in Singapore, starting as the company’s business development manager before being promoted to managing director.

A former master mariner, Singh started his shipping career as a deck officer in 1989 with Associated Bulk Carriers, where over 14 years he rose through the ranks to become a bulk carrier captain.

A switch to the offshore sector in 2004, when he joined Transocean and then Tidewater, where he worked as captain on a variety of different offshore vessel types.

Singh went on to work in senior management roles at B+H offshore after coming ashore in 2008, before making a complete career switch when he joined SSY to set up the shipbroker’s oil and gas brokering business in Singapore.

TradeWinds was unable to contact Singh on Friday outside UK office hours for further comment on his decision to join V Ships.

The past week has seen numerous major shipping personnel changes, particularly in shipbroking where there have been mass departures from Maersk Broker, Gibsons and Charles R Weber, as rivals have successfully managed to poach desirable members of their broking teams.
