A car carrier abandoned by crew off the Philippines following a fire is now under tow.

The 6,400-ceu Diamond Highway (built 2004) was off Recto Bank in the West Philippine Sea at the time of the blaze, the Philippine Coast Guard said on Monday.

Charterer K Line of Japan confirmed all crew members disembarked the vessel and were unharmed.

"According to the shipowner, the vessel is currently under tow and the Philippines coast guard is monitoring the situation closely," it added, without providing further details of damage or cargo.

The owner is listed as Diamond Car Carriers.

The vessel was en route from Singapore to Batangas.

All 25 crew were rescued by a passing bulker heading to Thailand.

A PCG vessel was carrying out firefighting operations on Monday.
